Seitan...My new favorite Vegan Protein!

Yuuuuuuuum. I just got done eating a Seitan sandwich and it was absolutely delightful! Despite its name sounding so evil Seitan is a nutritious food thats good for you! This plant based protein was a very refreshing alternative from my usual tofu dishes. With ranging from 15-21 grams of protein and about 100 calories I am absolutely loving Seitan.

What is Seitan ? Well from my research I've found that it is a protein that is derived from wheat. Surprisingly enough Seitan is low in carbohydrates. It has only 4-8 grams of carbs. This is because the process of making Seitan washes away the flour and is left with the byproduct which we eat.

Seitan has been around for a long time. Since the 6th century in China to be exact. It is very popular in Asian countries. This "vegetable meat" can be cooked with a variety of textures and styles.

I really enjoy West Soy cubed Seitan. It is so versatile and deliciously preseasoned! You can grab it from Amazon Groceries or Whole Foods. You literally can microwave it in just a couple of minutes making this a fast and easy food to eat. Seitan has been a lifesavor when I had little time in between classes to eat.

Here's my easy Seitan Sandwich Recipe:

2 slices of your favorite bread

1/3 package of West Soy Seitan

1 handful of alpha sprouts

1 sliced tomato

tablespoon of hummus

banana peppers

Even if you are not vegan or vegetarian Seitan might be a new protein to spice things up in your routine! Have you tried Seitan yet? What are your thoughts? Whats your favorite way to eat it?
