Meditation vs Mindfulness
Mindfulness and meditation kind of feel like buzzwords these days. It's the sexy thing that you are supposed to do you have a bunch of time on their hands. I know that meditation is good for you. I've experienced the benefits and the subtle impact I my day today life.
Despite knowing how amazing benefits are, I can't seem to get it into a regular practice in my life. When I feel happy and things are going good I tend to just push meditation aside. When shit hits the fan then I’m meditating my ass off like it was my day job. I'm wondering if you're the same way. Or perhaps the opposite!
This morning as I was caught in the DC traffic 495 I listen to Ashley Stahl's You Turn podcast about creating more energy. The episode in the show describe the many benefits of meditation and explained that everybody should be practicing two times a day for 20 minutes. Emily Fletcher (the guest speaker and meditation teacher) addresses that you should know what you're doing before you carve out that much time otherwise you'll be wasting energy if you're not properly meditating.
Additionally the Emily Fletcher goes on to tell us about how stress makes us stupid. I totally agree! I noticed when I haven’t slept or I have too much on my plate I have the worst brain fog. I have like a 10 minute brain delay for the simplest of answers. Meditation helps our brain rest. It gives our brain a time out. Its good to unplug and reset. And when we meditate we are eight times more productive in our day-to-day lives. There is a reason why high-performing CEOs and athletes have a dedicated meditation practice.
The guests speaker, Emily also points out the difference between mindfulness and meditation. I honestly always use them as a pseudonym for each other. Mindfulness is about being in the present moment where meditation is about letting go of the past. Meditation can help us heal a lot of old wounds we’ve been carrying around. She emphasizing the use of Mantra in meditation. No, you don’t have to repeat your Mantra over and over and over and over until you’re sick of it. Rather you allow the Mantra roll in and out. Its like an anchor for a boat on the sea. The boat might begin to drift away but eventually the anchor will pull the boat back to where it is supposed to be.You
